Especially in the posh clubs frequented by local celebrities, the security and other staff can be a bit arrogant or even rude to foreigners and there are even some scam reports. Lack of English proficiency among locals can also contribute to communication difficulties, so it wouldn't hurt if you were joined by local friends while exploring Istanbul's nightlife. But in general Istanbul is safe and friendly and the people are known for their warm hospitality.
